...While her friend went to explore the area around the square, Maria sat down to watch the crowds who kept arriving, fascinated by this new people, who came from a land so close to the sky. She allowed herself to absorb the atmosphere, while in the background that almost imperceptible sound that came from deep within every person awakened the chanting words which were so often in her mind but that she rarely pronounced. Barely moving her lips she said it without being noticed, whilst observing those around her. They wore the most incredible hats, some leaf-shaped, others seemed a giant visor that covered the head and protected their eyes from the sun, set with red coral, turquoise and amber stones. The children were carried on their mothers' or grandmothers' backs, wrapped in blankets that held them tight. They had red cheeks, dishevelled hair, dripping noses and looked sweet, puppies of man. Franca came back; if they wanted to go to the ceremony, it was better if they ate beforehand: "Let's go to the Tibetan chai-shop, come on. It's cheap!"............
A passage from Made in Nirvana (available in Amazon worldwide) and a photo of India during monsoon time! ;-)

AuthorBorn in Treviso on the 18th November 1953, Emanuela Cooper studies foreign languages at the College for Tourism in Venice and later Political Science at Padua University. Following a rather extreme existential crisis, towards the end of the 70s, she decides to travel to India ‘to have a look’ and, with any luck, find herself. Made in Nirvana is inspired by the first two trips to India, where Emanuela Cooper returns many times, living there for six years. A big part of the story of Made in Nirvana is based on her personal experience, while the other part is fruit of her vivid imagination. What may appear as invented has probably really happened, and vice versa! Archives
