Chapter 21
The weight of freedom
Finally they landed and, as soon as she stood up, she recognized a young man she had glimpsed a couple of times in Durbar Square. He nodded at her and, when she reached the bottom of the stairs, he approached her. "Have you bought any whisky to resell?" he asked casually. "Did you know that you can repay the cost of the flight with just one bottle?"
"I haven't had the time. I almost missed the plane. Have you?"
"I did! People wait outside the airport with money in their hands."
"How much can you sell it for?" she asked, out of curiosity.
"Three hundred and fifty rupees is easy to get. If you want more you have to haggle."
She had the uncomfortable feeling that there was something creepy about this boy and didn't stop to wait for him while he was bargaining over the price. However, a few minutes later he was by her side having sold his whisky for three hundred and sixty rupees, without a problem. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"To Delhi, and you?"
"Me too."
It seemed natural to share a rickshaw, it was cheaper, and how could she refuse? ..........................

They walked onto the platform, Maria next to the policeman with the insignia, while the other eleven followed them. All the passengers were watching them from the train windows, many of them excited at seeing something interesting, others with a worried expression. Where were they taking her? ....................
