"Made in Nirvana is a beautiful Book. It is utterly ‘charming' in all various meaning of this word. Magical, Poetic, and deeply Moving. The characters are friends we come to know, feel for, identify with.
India’s verdant beauty - vivid colours, sounds, smells, tastes. Realisation and respect for humanity awoken by those with ‘materially so little’ yet who share appreciation of ‘true treasures within -
The central protagonist, Maria’s search for herself, drives the narrative. We travel by train, bus, rickshaw, boat, plane, taxi, feet! From city to mountains to Jungle. Country to country. Maria’s delightful appetite for fun and her honest desire to make heart to heart connections with everyone she meets, brings a beautiful innocence alive. Maria's story emerges alongside the Rivers. Rivers and water bring Maria to the source of people and LIFE itself.
Our visitor’s vulnerabilities weave truthful tales of fears, drugs, misunderstandings, projections, friendships, betrayal, love and courage. If anyone wants to understand modern Buddhist philosophy and practice through the experiences of real people, living and breathing concepts into reality - this book brings the Heart of Buddhism alive with vivacity through stories of personal revelation and socratic dialogue.
I think Made In Nirvana is a Healing Book. I travelled to exquisite and challenging places. Inside and out. The writing is so vivid - the images imprinted in my memory like sensorial paintings.
Finally, I came to a place of rest. A good place in my self. One of Hope.
Thankyou so much Emanuella Cooper

Peaceful and uplifting reader
By Luna von Eisenhart Rothe on 7 July 2015
Format: Paperback
As I was lucky to buy the book directly from the author after a public reading in Ibiza, I expected a diverting lecture. But reading "Made in Nirvana" has given me much more than that: I constantly had to smile, once or twice I was crying a little bit (due to the beauty of the situation described) and I really enjoyed the introduction into buddhism, which is never missionary but very interesting! Afterwards I found my self chanting with joy - and wanting to go visit India again… ;-) Even for me, with a German mother tongue it was easy to read, although it is written with eloquent style. In conclusion, I can say this is a very uplifting book! Looking forward to read it again!

A refreshingly positive novel providing a fascinating insight into the Indian way of life from a young westerner's perspective. Anyone who has travelled around India on a tight budget should be able to relate to the experiences in this book. Emanuela Cooper keeps the pace flowing with a balanced mixture of descriptive detail, light humour and thoughtful analysis of human behaviour. The respect that the main character feels for the people she meets on her travels shines through and illuminates the reader. If you read it at bedtime you'll go to sleep with a smile on your face.

By Richard Lawson on 5 May 2015
Format: Paperback
This book beautifully portrays the emotions and experiences of a life-changing journey of discovery through the eyes of a much younger and more adventurous Manu – at a time in her life when every day meant a new and exciting discovery.
It’s a fabulous read for its evocative descriptions of life on the road in India as a backpacker, colourfully intertwined with the tenets of Buddhism that leaves you wondering why other religions can’t be more smiley and fun!
It made me feel much closer to the author, myself and most of the rest of humanity – inspiring…

Loved this book - and I want to return to India again ! xx

I love this book detailing the travels of 2 young Italian girls in India - way back when - and the different paths they chose ! I felt I was travelling with them - the descriptions of life in India and the choices they made make fascinating reading. This lovely country offers so much to the traveller and no-one returns without having been changed in some mysterious way by the magic of the country, and Emanuela has captured this perfectly. An insight for those who choose the path less travelled. Made me want to return....................................!

journey of a life time
By stephen lowe on 13 March 2015
Format: Paperback
India is a multitude of differing worlds and Nirvana captures brilliantly the ever-changing worlds. it offers-a fascinating a journey - both internal and external worlds-where the land and its people are central characters passionately and compassionately described. If you know India the writing will vividly bring it back to life- if you've never been if will inspire you to visit. It's a love story to a distant land. A real pleasure to travel with the innocent Maria on her quest.

I very much enjoyed reading this book. The description of life in India and Nepal as seen by the two girls was very real and made me feel I was there with them. The Buddhist religion, as told by several of the characters was very interesting too. The love story that mingled with their escapades added spice to the story. A very good book indeed.

By Derek Andrews on 16 August 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
I have enjoyed every minute of reading this book and would recommend it to any back packers or parents of back packers to read and absorb the culture, the places, the spices and the people which come to life in every page, and also the dangers that confront the travellers.
You have this overwhelming feeling that you want to step into the book and join them in their travels and experience the dangers, the trials and tribulations which they encounter on a daily basis, but also the love, the building of friendships and the amazing places they visit, India becomes this place you have a urge to visit and the people come across beautifully.
The author touches on Buddhism and is relevant to the journey but don't be put off, it is not a hard sell, it fits nicely with the story, I only wish she had put a map of India and Nepal in the back of the book so we could have followed the trail.

A Great Read
By Mrs. C. Myers on 18 October 2015

A wonderful, very readable book. I couldn't put it down. I have been to India, years ago and it brings it all back..... meeting strange people who open your eyes, the vibrant colours, the smell of food cooking, the drugs, the poverty, the laughter and the tears of a great adventure are all brought to life in the pages of this book. I particularly found the author's awakening to Buddhism very interesting and she explained it all in a way that I finally understood..... and I come from a family with a lot of practicing Buddists! I can only highly recommend it and guess what? I'm going back to India this winter after 20 years...... Its going to be interesting. Thank you Emanuela.

I first read the book in manuscript and I was literally enthralled. A spell was woven over me and from the other wonderful reviews I am not alone.
I do not have the skill to adequately describe this book, though I have been trying to compose a review for months - I now own the treasured manuscript, the book and my Kindle copy. I will never be able to regain my youth or to backpack to India in person, but when I open any one of my copies I live the adventure.
The book is delightfully non political and non evangelical but Buddhism plays an important and informative part. A wonderful book.

By Miss Tanzie Oliver on 3 May 2015

This book is a joy to read. I savoured the last few pages, as I just didn't want it to end. I thoroughly enjoyed the vivid and colourful descriptions of India; the place, the culture and the people. I hope to visit later this year! The Buddhist references were an integral part of the book, woven effortlessly into this story about life, and helped me with my understanding of Buddhism (and life!). For me, the strongest impact came from the central character Maria. She became a friend to me as her story unfolded - I laughed with her, cried with her, and fell in love with her as she travelled her physical and spiritual journey. Reading Made in Nirvana has enriched my life. Thank you Emanuela Cooper!

A life-changing journey for the main characters, but not only! Immersing myself in this novel I was carried away by many powerful emotions. The places, the smells and the people I met in the pages of Made in Nirvana have become a little bit part of me. I learned the fundamental principles of Buddhism and I tried to put them into practice. I recommend it with a passion.

A gripping novel, which cleverly weaves the story of Nichiren Diashonin Buddhism. As a Buddhist myself, it was great to pick up a novel that reinforced the teachings I have been so blessed to learn in this life time.
I have bought many copies to share with friends, as its the perfect book to introduce Buddhism to them, in an easy to read Indian adventure story.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Intrigued by the Buddhist philosophy, I read this book by chance and I was fascinated! Besides being a book of love and adventure, there are some good descriptions of India: locations, customs. It teaches us how to live happily respecting ourselves, others and everything around us through the Buddhist philosophy! I think this book is a worthwhile read because it has a lot to teach us all.

5.0 of 5 stars Made in Nirvana From Lia Tagliacozzo July 6, 2016 Format : Soft cover | purchase verified A journey outside and inside of herself that brings Maria to realize herself as a woman in all her fullness. The author portrays the situations with confidence and you can perceive the artist and the meditator in the colors and depth of the strokes that describe situations, encounters and landscapes. Perhaps she lingers a bit too much on the didactic aspects but by doing so she succeeds in making it intriguing, and engaging the reader with respect to the meaning of the mantra and of the concept of Buddhahood. ---------------------------------------- |

A fascinating, entertaining and deeply profound story By Caz.I on September 10, 2016 Format: Paperback Just finished reading Made In Nirvana the other day after taking it with me to read on a five-day vacation. It is a gripping story which mixes up ingredients such as romance, adventure, thrill-seeking and spirituality, as well as sharing some profound insights into Indian culture and also Buddhism. So it does so much more than simply entertain and transmits such hopeful and inspiring messages. What I found incredible was the way it expresses different Buddhist concepts using very down to earth realistic examples without lecturing and without losing the intrigue of the plot. It re-inspired my own spiritual practice and was exactly what I needed to hear. The story itself is fascinating and I couldn’t put it down for a second so actually finished it within the week. ---------------------------- |
